Autumn Term - 2018
Welcome back to school for not only the start of the new term, but for what will be your final year in Castle Hills. You are now top of the school so let’s lead by example showing the rest of the school how to work hard, play hard, have fun and have a brilliant final year. We have picked a number of exciting topics this year including ‘Frozen Kingdom’, a look into the wilds of the Arctic and ‘A Child’s War, focussing on the history of WW2. This term though our topic will be ‘Bloodheart’.
Crimson, scarlet, burgundy, cherry…blood flows through our bodies in all its vibrant shades of red. Let’s explore our circulation system! Now surgeons don’t be squeamish, as we dissect an animal heart and study its veins, arteries and chambers up close. They all work hard to move blood around our bodies. William Harvey was fascinated with anatomy and made ground breaking discoveries about valves. I wonder what we might discover?
Let’s check out the most common blood groups in our class. Why do people give blood?
Find out how to keep your heart happy with cardiovascular exercise and healthy food. Kick start a campaign to spread the word about the damage caused by smoking to the lungs and heart.
Hearts pound, flutter and maybe skip a beat…What makes your heart race? Is it a secret – cross my heart I won’t tell!
Year 6 is an exciting year with lots to look forward to. An increased amount of sports competitions are organised, children have the option to become playground leaders, the Year 6 residential is a fantastic time away from school and finally we have the Year 6 production.
